Homework due in

Thursday Homework sent home

Please remember homework goes home on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday. Please listen to your child read as often as possible during the week. Reading is a very important life skill and needs to be practised as often as possible. Remember that reading does not just have to be their school reading book - they can read any book, newspaper or magazine or use a computer based reading program.

It is essential that children have a full kit, including pumps as they may be outside.

Year 2 SATs Information for Parents

This Half-term

Fire and Ice will be our main topic focus across the summer term.

As Geographers we will learn to identify the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the equator and the north/south poles.

Comparing and contrasting these two environments and developing our geographical vocabulary.

In English we will focus on the fire part of the topic by reading a variety of books about dragons including; George and the Dragon, The Snow Dragon and The Dragon Machine. The children will create pieces of writing using the texts as a model whilst building their own ideas into each piece.

In each piece of writing the children will be expected to show off what they’re able to do by using the grammar, spelling and punctuation they have learnt as well as making their writing stand out by using exciting vocabulary and other features we learnt throughout the year.

In Maths, we will continue to learn about Fractions, and then move on to learning about different types of measurement, including time, capacity and temperature. We will also learn about 2D and 3D shapes, considering and comparing their properties. We will continue to practice our knowledge of the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through regular 'arithmetic' practice. We will also continue to practice our reasoning skills, applying our knowledge to a variety of problems and reasoning questions in preparation for the upcoming SATs test.

In science, we will continue to learn about Plants, and will carry out a comparative test to see in what conditions plants grow best.
