Please remember homework goes home on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday.
Please listen to your child read as often as possible during the week. Reading is a very important life skill and needs to be practised as often as possible. We are currently changing children’s books fortnightly to encourage re-reading of the books and more talk about the stories. We also encourage you to use the library and Oxford Owl website to access more books with your child.
If you haven’t signed up to Class Dojo please do, to see all the wonderful things the children are doing. Class messages also get put on there so don’t miss out on these. See Mrs Smith if you need to do this. Please note we can add two parents so both can see the class stories.
This Half Term
In the topic of ‘What creature am I?’ we will be learning about different types of animals, what is special about the animals and names for the adults and babies.
Children will begin to learn about lifecycles and how animals grow and change just like they do. We will have a particular focus on sea creatures, farm animals, jungle/zoo animals, mini-beasts and pets. We will end the topic with our famous ‘pet week’ where we invite parents to bring in pets so the children can talk about them and learn from each other. (Look out for a separate letter)
In literacy we will be focusing on stories by Giles Andreae. We will be asking lots of different types of questions about animals and trying to find the answers using the school library. phonics we are continuing with Phase 3 sounds and focussing on reading and writing with these sounds.
In Maths we will be focussing on securing using numbers to 20. We will be recognising, writing, ordering, adding and subtracting with numbers to 20 making sure we have a secure concrete knowledge of them.
We will also be talking about positional language and getting the children to describe their relative position such as ‘behind’ or ‘next to’. We will be sequencing events of the day.
